Café Batavia (Restaurant)

My friend and I travelled to Kota Tua Jakarta. The day was hot, I decided to find a nearby coffee shop and drink a cup of coffee. Then I saw this restaurant called Café Batavia. Café Batavia is a restaurant that located at Kota Tua Jakarta. From outside, you can see clearly a green canopy that written Café Batavia. Actually, there are a lot of coffee shops here like Bangi Kopi and Kopi Kota Tua but we tried this one because the concept of this restaurant is unique.

You can go there by Transjakarta with only Rp 3,000 from Blok M Station to Kota Station (Transjakarta No. 1). So, the main point is that you should stop at Kota Station if you use Transjakarta. After you have arrived at the Kota Station, you can walk to this place, do not be shy to ask people nearby if you do not know, or you will get lost.

Do not forget to bring glasses and hat if you do not want to get sunburn as you walk, because the weather is so hot at noon. You also can buy them at the retail sellers at the sidewalk. There are glasses, hats, food and beverage, accessories, andong services, and many more.

After you have arrived at the restaurant, the waiter will serve you with the menu of the restaurant. You can choose first and decide whether you will order or not. If you decide to order, then they will ask you to go upstairs for ordering.

The first time you come in, you will see retro, antique, and classic decorations, bring you
to feel the Dutch colonial era atmosphere. There are a lot of photos on the wall, dim lighting, and antique furniture mostly from wood.

Most of the visitors of this restaurant are foreign tourists and expatriates. There are also local tourists too. I chose to sit near a window because we can see Kota Tua activities from the window. This window's view place is only available for 90 minutes for each order. You can see people walk and play bicycle at Kota Tua.

I ordered two affogatos and one macchiato. I had to wait for about 30 minutes until my order had been served because it was so crowded. The prices are Rp 55,000 for each affogato and Rp 40,000 for macchiato, excluding tax and service. The price is a little bit pricey for the taste but it is worth for the location and the atmosphere. I give 7 out of 10 for the taste. The coffee at this restaurant was so sour. If you do not like a coffee with a strong sour taste, you will not like this coffee, but for me it is fine because I like drink coffee whether it is dominated by bitter or sour taste.

This restaurant has live music at downstairs, wifi, and cozy place for chit chatting with relatives or friends. It also has alcoholic beverages like beer, wine, and martini and many kinds of main courses until desserts. There are also unique restrooms with many photos in it.

They accept both payment of cash and card. So, you will not be afraid if you forget of bringing cash, but the minimum total order should be more than Rp 100,000 for card payment.

So here is the conclusion of my review. Happy jajan!
